Qld: NRL legend due to appear in court over car crash
BRISBANE, April 21 AAP - Rugby league legend Dale Shearer will face court on Wednesday
over a drunken car crash that left him critically injured.
The 44-year-old Australian and Origin star crashed and rolled his four-wheel drive
Porsche at Peregian Springs, on the Sunshine Coast, late on February 21 last year.
He spent months in hospital with neck and abdominal injuries, and was forced to communicate
with family members by winking.
Police took blood samples following the crash to determine whether alcohol played a
part in the crash.
In February, he was issued with a summons to appear in the Noosa Magistrates Court
on April 21, and will be charged with drink driving and driving without due care.
Shearer played 20 Tests for Australia and 26 State of Origin matches for Queensland.
