Sai: Skiff crews lodge protest in Olympic medal race row

Australia's 49er skiff crew will not get a second chance to challenge for a medal after
Olympic sailing regatta officials ruled yesterday's medal race would not be re-contested.

Australians NATHAN OUTTERIDGE and BEN AUSTIN and several other crews lodged protests
after organisers pushed ahead with the medal decider at the last minute despite dangerous
weather and sea conditions off Qingdao.

Danish pair JONAS WARRER and MARTIN IBSEN won the gold medal, followed by the Spanish
and German crews.

The Australians eventually finished in fifth.

An Australian team spokeswoman says the race committee decided the race would stand
but officials are continuing to deliberate on a separate protest lodged against the Danes.
