Industry experts see market volume near to $500 million mark
CDR Roundup--The ethnic H&BA market continues to grow as various experts agree that it is rapidly closing in on the $500 million mark. Category studies have shown that ethnic hair care was the largest toiletries segment in 1988. Ethnic hair care contributed 9.4% ($441.7 million) of the overall category's $4.7 billion in sales. Including skin care and cosmetics, ethnic H&BAs contribute nearly one-eighth of all U.S. toiletries revenues among all retail trade classes. Ethnic H&BA sales are expected to break $500 million by 1990, and reach as high as $600 million by the middle of the decade.
