A graduate student employed by the state Senate said he believes that Republican fund-raisers sent him mailings at an address obtained from his Senate personnel records.
But the director of the state Senate Republican Committee, which sent the solicitation, denied that his office uses such records and said the address must have come from another source.
In the past, the Senate has released payroll documents to news media that include employee addresses. According to Robert Freeman of the state Committee on Open Government, there is nothing illegal about such a release by a legislative body.
