WA: Thousands turn out to protest for peace

PERTH, Feb 16 AAP - A strong anti-war message was delivered to John Howard's governmentby thousands of people who turned up to a peace rally in Perth yesterday afternoon.

The rally, which police estimate was attended by about 10,000 people, featured speechesby WA Greens MP Dee Margetts and WA Democrats Senator Brian Grieg.

Banners with slogans such as "You Can Bomb the World into Pieces but You Can't Bombit into Peace", "No Blood for Oil", "Bring Back the Troops - Deport Howard", echoed thesentiments of thousands who had turned up to similar rallies across the nation this weekend.

People from all walks of life including parents, children, senior citizens and studentsvoiced their opposition to a war in Iraq by marching around the city centre chanting forpeace.
